We are introducing a new account verification process for all Cloudfleet organizations. Going forward, every account will be required to verify its billing address and payment method. Previously, this verification was handled on demand and manually by the Cloudfleet team. We are now making it a standard part of using the platform.
What you need to do
We are rolling this out gradually, starting on May 29, 2026. Existing accounts will be prompted to add a billing address and payment method in the Cloudfleet Console as the rollout reaches them, so there is nothing to do until you see the prompt. Running resources are not affected, and API and Terraform access continues to work as before. New accounts complete this step during signup. The whole process takes a few minutes.
Why we are adding verification
Free and unverified infrastructure attracts a meaningful amount of abuse, including mining, spam, and automated attacks. The cost of that falls on legitimate users in the form of degraded service, slower support, and reduced investment in features. Verification is the standard industry response, and knowing who is behind each account is the most effective safeguard we have.
There is a regulatory dimension too. European cloud service providers operate under a tightening environment, from NIS2 cybersecurity obligations to EU sanctions requirements and growing expectations from customers in regulated sectors. Knowing our customers is a baseline part of meeting those expectations.
When Cloudfleet was only compute and networking, the question of who is behind an account mattered less. Now that we store customer data, starting with container images in the Cloudfleet Container Registry and more to come, knowing our customers is part of being a trustworthy custodian of that data.
Adding billing information does not mean you will be charged
Verifying your account does not change what you pay. You will only be charged for paid resources you actually use. The free tier stays free. Adding a billing address and payment method simply confirms who is behind the account. It does not commit you to any spending.
We understand this is a meaningful change
We know this means losing some of the friction-free signup that made Cloudfleet quick to try, and we held off on this change longer than other providers for that reason. We believe it is the right tradeoff to protect our users and to keep building managed services that store and process data responsibly.
This change is most significant for users who have been using Cloudfleet without providing identifying details. If the transition is difficult for your setup, reach out and we will help you work through it. You can contact our support team at [email protected].
